January 2012January takes its name from the old Roman God called Janus. Janus was the Roman god of doorways, gates and all beginnings. In the earliest Roman calendars there was no January. Their year was made up of ten months with a gap between the end of December and the new year in March. The old Anglo-Saxon calendar began on 25 December.
